Nutrient-dense

Happy Friday Tuesday!!! You caught me …it’s my Friday! And even though I’m not feelin’ 100% today, I’m off to the left coast for a little 5-day adventure tomorrow. Highlights will include (but are not limited to) …

  1. San Francisco city-livin’
  2. Monterey cruisin’
  3. Tahoe shreddin’
  4. Sonoma sippin’
  5. Lulu shoppin’, and
  6. Recipe cookin’ (Chili Rellenos, anyone?)

I tried to pack some nutrient-dense food into my eats today to help fix whatever is off in my bod.

  • Breakfast: OSAL+orange+2 vitamins
  • Mid-morning snack: Smoothie (soymilk+mixed berries+honey+oats+sprinkle of granola on top) …sorry I forgot to snap a photo ..it looked like the smoothie from yesterday
  • [insert 2 hour nap, and Corepoweryoga’s C2 class. What a great cleanse …I leave every single class in disbelief of how much I sweat. Gross, but good!]
  • Late-afternoon snack: 1.5 grapefruits+water+emergen-c while watching an episode of Castle. Good episode. Speaking of shows, does anyone have Weeds season 5 that I can borrow?
  • Early dinner: Veggie wrap! Somewhat inspired by Holly, I sautéed some Organic Girl spinach, heated up some of those SP chunks, refried black beans, and a sprinkle of goat cheese …headed it all over the stove top to crisp up the tortilla. Doesn’t that look good!

Before I say so-long, check out the blogroll I added …lots of other good reads out there, kiddos. Check ’em out!

Question Master: What’s your quick-fix for a sore throat/achy bod? Help!

Blogger-worthy eats

Blogger-worthy eats to report on today, folks.

Picture deets’ [left to right, top to bottom]

1. OSAL …Loving my new Krups machine.

2. Orangey-Oats

  • 1/4c oat mix (steel-cut+old-fashioned) with 3/4c hot water
  • 1/2tbsp cinnamon+sliced naner
  • [microwaved for 1minute]
  • 1/4c fat-free ricotta
  • splash of soymilk+couple drops of orange extract
  • [microwaved for another minute]

I let the oats sit for a couple minutes to firm up and then added a couple walnuts and a sprinkle of chia seeds. A cup ‘o water with three sliced cucumbers helped wash ‘er down. Adding extracts to my oats is my new favorite thing, try it out!

3-5. Superfood Lunch. That would be ~3/4c SP with a sprinkle of cinnamon+shredded ginger, 5 or so celery sticks+MaraNatha peanut butter, and some spinach with goat cheese+roasted soy nuts and some berries …dressed in red wine vinegar. Holy hell that was good.

6-8. I love making granola. It’s super easy and I like knowing what ingredients are used (oats, walnuts, almonds, honey, soy nuts, raisins, mini morsels. First, I roasted the nuts in the oven at 375 for ~7 minutes. Then I swapped out the nuts for the oat mixture for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once the oats cooled, I added the nuts, raisins, and morsels. Viola!

9. Weetabix – New buy at the store. Blah. Cool, there’s protein and fiber, but if the flavor is bland, I’ll pass.

10. Immersion blender time. Soymilk+mixed berries+oats+honey. I had to try my new granola sprinkled on top. dabomb.

Question Master: No question today, but how about a shout out to my buddy Adam who just got ENGAGED over the weekend! Go Adam. And yes, now you can comment on my blog 🙂

Snacking>Meals

I’ve blogged for over a week now and failed to mention lululemon! For those of you close to me, it’s a hard concept to grasp, right? If I didn’t sell food for a living, I would be selling anything and everything lulu …mainly because I’m a big believer in their business model, I live in their clothing when I’m not in work clothes, and they are HQ’d in Vancouver. Does it get any better? I think I’ve turned at least 25 friends on to their line (you’re welcome). For those of you who are yogis (or anyone active for that matter), I have yet to find better workout attire on the market. And, the best part is how well their stuff holds up. I bought my first pair of pants (it takes a while to warm up to the idea of spending a handful ‘o’ cash on these things) about 6 or so years ago …that same pair still accompanies me to the studio, running trails, etc. Moral of the story? Worth every penny!

Who you going to run to, now? That link should bring up a song by Solid Gold that I’m diggin’. I went to a Haiti benefit concert downtown last night where they were the headliner …fun music. And since we’re talkin music ….check out Mat Kearney’s songs “Runaway car.” His new tour dates just came out and he’s not coming to MSP! He’ll be hearing from me.

Not much to report on the food front as of late. It’s been a little something like:

Snacking>Meals

Snacking=Wheat Thins, Sweet Pot slices, OSAL, Smoothie, Coco Roast Almonds ….Water, Kombucha.

Oh, and the last picture unfortunately wasn’t my dinner although I wish it had been. It’s a Brussel Sprout salad that was picture-texted to me from my old roomate, LP. When we lived in Arizona, we were obsessed with anything La Grande Orange. Looks like they’ve expanded to California. Dayyyyyaaaam that looks d-lish.

Question Master: Who’s road trippin’ to Chicago to see Kearney with me?

Night & Day

Currently in my Margarita pants (obsessed), listening to Colbie Caillat “I Never Told You” (obsessed) sippping some bedtime tea (not obsessed).

Last night I did a little food/bev prep. I had a bag ‘o pots’ (sweet pots, to boot) to prep and some iced tea to make. Thanks, Mikey for the green tea+agave idea!

Washed, chopped, and baked, the pots went into the oven (~40min@400-degrees). Simultaneously, I boiled about a quart of water and plopped in 5 TJs green tea bags ….steeped for a couple minutes and poured into a jug over ice. Perfect little something to sip any time of day. That was my evening activity …holler.

Come morning, it was time for my OSAL.

[insert 30min slippery, sloppy drive to the office]

Breakfast was another batch of fantastic oats.

Ooomazing oatmeal

  • 1/4c my oat mix (steel-cut+old-fashioned)
  • 1/2c hot water
  • 1/2tbsp cinnamon
  • [microwaved ~1minute]
  • 1/4c fat-free ricotta cheese+Libby’s pumpkin
  • Splash of soymilk
  • Sliced naner
  • 1/2tbsp chia seeds

Sounds like a lot, cause it was! Filled me up for 4+ hours. Oh, and I sipped on that Acai antioxidant superfood drink by Sambazon that I picked up yesterday at the store. Highly recommend. I can’t remember verbatim but I think the bottle claimed some 100+ acai berries per bottle. Met my quota for the month. The bottle was between $3 and $4, so it won’t be a regular buy, but a good find. Between that and a Kombucha, I’m not sure what I’d opt for …probably loyal to Kom.

So, fast forward to lunchie time …I experimented a little bit, much thanks to Good Earth. If you’ve never been there, go! You won’t regret it. So, those sweet pots that I roasted last night …I used about 3/4c of those (skin and all) and added some shaved ginger+cinnamon and heated them for ~1minute in the microwave. I ‘mashed’ them with a fork and called it a side ‘o veggies. The headliner of my lunch was a lil berry+bean salad.

Berry+Bean Salad

The salad was enough. Considering I wasn’t too hungry after such a fab breakfast, I was ok with it. I snacked on a couple Wheat Things later in the afternoon cause they’re so damn good ….follow by an upset tummy remedied by some peppermint tea.

All in all, a good night, day, and night again.

Question Master: Anyone have a good chili recipe? It’s sounding good, and I need some ideas.

High/Low

I neglected to take ANY photos the last two days …whoops. Better luck tomorrow. Below is a quick review of the two restaurants I experienced yesterday.

Shamrocks for lunch yesterday ….AMAZING SPF (sweet potato fries). They were dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with an aioli (garlic, olive oil, egg, salt) dipping sauce. Coulda eaten a whole basket. Buffalo chicken sammy …HOT&SPICY but too much bun.

Grand Pizza …decent. I prefer super-thin or wood-oven pizzas to this. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Question Master: What has your high-low been of the week?

I’ll lead, you follow. High …yoga+dinner tonight with my great, old-time friend Alex! Those ginger yams at Good Earth were d-lish, huh? Low …this cold, dry weather!! I need some sun and a beach.
